Teaching Language to Children with Autism

There are several ways to teach language to children with autism, for now we discuss about compic to help children to talk children with autism.

Compic is a code pictorial, not photo but a code for example a cup on compic represent all kinds of cup, no matter the size or shape.

Sequence in teaching objects:
  1. Creat a condition ready to learn, child sitting in front of a table “equate” simple objects, example variety of shapes and colors.
  2. Creat a good visual discrimination with “equate” similar images.
  3. Creat represantations by equating images with objects and objects to images.
  4. Creat basic sorting capabilities with equating the images are similar but not exactly.
  5. Introduce compic to classification and at first children will consider it as one image.
  6. Teach vocabulary compic by equating compic with objects, compic with images, and compic with home furnishing.
  7. Compic with the same objects to tell the child this compic for this item.
  8. Compic associate with each spoken word is shown compic.
  9. Teach about words discrimination by discrimination techniques, but show the compic when say the word.
  10. So, children begin to recognize simple compic, we must start “exchange compic”, put object or food likes and dislikes on the table and the compic too. If child take and give you the compic, you take it and then you give object or food existing in the compic. Child will be learn to request favorite object or food in this way. If you success with this way on the table generalize to the kitchen and put the food’s compic in the place can be reached by child.
  11. Meanwhile, you must develop the compic on the table  be sentence with use “sentence maker”. Now, child use two words “want chocolate”.

To distract divert a child from image to word, enough to make the image a little fuzzy with thin color over the image. Color over time made the thicker, the more blurred image so attention turned to writing underneath. In the end you live cut picture.
Until here before, hopefully useful. Sorry for writing, because I am still learning.
